Animator vs. Animation Saga

Today I came across something I haven’t seen in awhile: Animator vs. Animation!

I so long to watch some more of these because the actions/animation are so creative that they just blow me away. If you haven’t been catching up to these really cool animations, here’s a list of all the ones I could find on Youtube! Check it out

  • Now a days people feel bored to use Mouse and Keyboard in front of the notebook or desktop.

“Take a peek at the video that Mitchell Kapor and Philippe Bossut posted Friday demonstrating software that allows navigation in virtual world environment without a mouse or a keyboard ” - NY Times

” Mr. Kapor was the original investor in Second Life and he took up the idea of a prototype navigation system after he and Mr. Bossut began thinking about the implications of cameras such as the prototype from 3DV Systems, an Israeli company that has begun showing the ZCam, a low cost, real-time depth sensing video camera. ”

” The camera can translate human hand motion or body motion into the movements of a virtual character inside Second Life. The demonstration works by placing the camera near the computer screen and pointing it at the human navigator. It is possible to move forward by leaning forward and move backwards by leaning back. It is also possible to jump and even fly around in cyberspace with the correct hand gestures. ”

If this comes to the market, there will be a great impact in the gaming industry with low cost of 3D camera and much more.

” One of the areas that Mr. Kapor said he was hoping to explore is the ability to conduct meetings in Second Life that are closer to experience of a face-to-face meeting.

The cameras, which have sub-centimeter resolution at the five to ten foot range, might be able to do motion capture. That would make it possible to directly convey facial expressions and body language in cyberspace, something that is largely missing from today’s multiplay video games and virtual worlds. ”

Updated: Weird Weather Flipbook of 2008

I came across an interesting article called weird whether, the first two months of the year 2008 have been weird for the weather.

    Wisconsin Tornado in January

“A tornado touches down in a residential area of Kenosha, Wisconsin, on a day of record-breaking warmth and storms in January.January 1, 2008″

“It was 26 degrees Thursday morning in Orlando, FL. AND it snowed at Daytona beach that night too.Jan, 2nd 2008″

    Frost in Florida Field

“Florida growers combat the hard freeze by maintaining a constant flow of water over crops. The heat released by the state change of water is enough to prevent damage, though the water must flow the entire time the temperatures are below freezing. It was 28 degrees when this picture was taken.Dover, FL

  • The Nintendo DS (sometimes abbreviated NDS or DS, also as iQue DS in China) is a handheld game console developed and manufactured by Nintendo, released in 2004.

On March 2, 2006, Nintendo released the Nintendo DS Lite, a redesigned model of the Nintendo DS, in Japan. It was later released in North America, Australia and Europe.

The Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite combined have sold:

    • 64.79 million units as of December 31, 2007.
    • In Japan, the sales ratio of the Nintendo DS to the PlayStation Portable is about four or five to one, a figure maintained on a weekly basis. Wiki

Video game giant Nintendo, facing increased competition in the market for handheld entertainment, will have a new portable out this fall with twin color screens, sharper graphics and the feel of a PDA. The Nintendo DS — short for dual-screen — will be unveiled Tuesday morning at the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo game industry gathering.

The DS will sell alongside today’s Game Boy Advance, not replace it, according to the company. Nintendo has not announced a release date or price, though analysts predict it may sell in the $150 range.

One of the two 3-inch screens is touch-sensitive and works with a stylus — like Palms and Pocket PCs — to control the action in some games. In one demo, players guide a toddler-age Mario as he falls from the sky by drawing clouds. Other games give multiple views of the action.

Sony’s PSP, reported to be only slightly less powerful than the PlayStation 2, will have a higher-resolution screen and more graphics power. The price has not yet been announced, though estimates have ranged to $250 and up.

  • According to MacRumors and AppleInsider, the Apple notebooks will see major design changes which will resemble the MacBook Air. So far all the previous Apple Notebooks Design retires every 2-3 years. If the statistic is current, it should be time for Apple to introduce their new generation of MacBook and MacBook Pro.

There’s a speculation that the next generation of MacBook will abandon aluminum & plastic casing to stainless steel, “which are reportedly more ‘eco-friendly’” and sturdy.

According to MacRumors, the new designs are expected to accompany the Montevina platform launch in June of this year. Montevina promises faster front-side bus speeds (1066MHz) over existing models (800MHz) and slightly faster Penryn processors (2.26-3.06GHz).

Everyone knows that Craigslist is one of the biggest online classifieds. But,

The Biggest competitor for Craigslist is OLX (OnLine eXchange) raises $13.5M.

According to co-founder Fabrice Grinda, “OLX is probably the largest classified site no one has ever heard of.” And now it’s also the most funded classified site no one has ever heard of, having secured an additional $13.5M in Series B funding today from General Catalyst, Bessemer Venture Partners, Founders Fund, and DN Capital.

The round brings OLX’s total funding up to $23.5M after raising a previously undisclosed Series A round of $10M in September 2006 with the same VCs and various angels.

Americans are not likely to have heard of OLX because its popularity lies mainly outside of the United States in places like Spain, India, Portugal, Mexico, South America, China, and the Philippines. It has established a presence in a total of 40 countries while supporting 15 languages. Much of its success in the Philippines can be attributed to its white label partnership with Friendster. Its offices are also spread over the globe with 92 employees working out of New York, Buenos Aires, Beijing, and Moscow.

The idea behind OLX, in addition to becoming Craigslist for the rest of the world, is to improve on the technology of first generation classified sites. Grinda prides OLX in its Web 2.0 features which include social network widgets, better search, Ajax-based editors, interactive maps, and mobile versions.

OLX was launched in June 2006 by Grinda with co-founder Alec Oxenford. In addition to taking on Craigslist, OLX faces off against eBay’s Kijiji, which poses the biggest international threat because it has also taken an aggressive global campaign.

  • IBM Super Fast Memory

‘Racetrack memory’ sounds like ‘Speed Track’

In another 10 years, its all about how fast we are moving towards the speed of technology.

IBM has allegedly developed a new type of digital storage that could greatly increase the capacity of portable devices, while reducing their price. ‘Racetrack’ memory, as this technology is called, uses spinning electrons to store more data, and enables these systems to operate faster than regular hard drives.

This technology is similar to flash memory, in that it has no moving parts, which reduces the likelihood of mechanical malfunction. However, unlike flash memory, it can write data very quickly, and does not wear easily out over time.

For years, scientists have been looking into storing data inside the was between magnetic domains. However, it has been too difficult and expensive to get significant results. Stuart Parkin, head of the team researching this technology, has said that his team was able to store data in columns of magnetic material on a silicon wafer. The data moves on the columns at high speed, hence the name ‘racetrack’.

This technology is currently considered “experimental”, but IBM anticipates that we will see devices utilizing it within the next ten years.
