For Apple Lovers, Survey from brandchannel.com says that The Most Inspirational Brand was “APPLE”.

Almost 110 Countries have participated for the Survey, 74 percent of which were in the marketing profession, voted Apple to the top in six of the 10 areas. Survey respondents placed Apple ahead of other companies like Nike, Coca-Cola, Google, Starbucks, McDonald’s, and Microsoft, citing things like “beautiful products,” ease of use, quality, and an overall love of Apple.

The categories were:

  • What brand would you most like to sit next to at a dinner party? Why? - Apple, Virgin, Google, Coca-Cola, Nike
  • What brand, if sent back 100 years, would have the biggest impact on the course of history? How? - Apple, Microsoft, Google, Coca-Cola, Ford
  • What brand that no longer exists would you resurrect? Why? - None, PanAm, Atari, TWA, Cingular
  • Which brand do you want to argue with? Why? - Microsoft, Apple, None, Coca-Cola, McDonald’s
  • Which brand inspires you the most? - Apple, Nike, Coca-Cola, Google, Starbucks
  • If you were to describe yourself as being a brand, what brand would you be? Why? - Apple, Nike, Coca-Cola, Virgin, BMW
  • If you could rebrand any brand, what brand would it be? - Microsoft, USA, Ford, Coca-Cola, Pepsi
  • What brand can you not live without? Why? - Top Five Answers: Apple, None, Coca-Cola, Google, Starbucks
  • What brand is most likely to revolutionize the branding industry in the next five years? Why? - Apple, Google, Doesn’t exist yet, Facebook, Nike
  • What brand do you think is truly (going) “green”? Why? - None, Toyota, BP, Body Shop, Honda

Apple won 5 out of 10. Microsoft won 2, but not categories it probably wanted to win: “brand you’d want to argue with” and “brand you’d want to rebrand.” It should be noted that Apple was #2 in the “argue” category. To show that Apple may be losing some of its luster, in the “argue” category, one comment was:

I think they exploit their customers’ good will to extremes. How Apple gets away with it, that’s beyond me!

Finally, here’s how Microsoft is viewed today: stodgy. In the “rebranding section,” this comment:

It’s gone from innovative and bold to stodgy and a follower. But rebranding is only one step since it really needs a major shift in how it thinks.

10 Awesome Gadgets Only In Asia

I was browsing the other day on PCWorld and came across a list of cool Asian gadgets that are only available in Asia.

PCWorld claims:

It’s true: The coolest gadgets often debut overseas–usually in Asia. Some are cell phones that double as music players or TVs. Others are supersmall yet powerful notebooks or handheld PCs. And some are just weird, like the world’s most disturbing piggy bank.

One of my favorite is the Toshiba ApriPoko Robot; it supposedly picks up and stores the IR signals that was seen on the conventional remote. So in the future, the owner could save time looking up for the remote and just talk to the AprilPoko and have it mimic the same IR code to the TV.
