Robots Compete To Save…

Here is an amazing video of Robots compete to save dolls in distress.

Robocup event has been running for 11 years and the new scientist have been implementing robots how to play soccer. “The pits teams of soccer robots against each other, with the goal of having a robotic team beat the human world soccer champions at their own game by 2050″.

“But a sub-competition called RoboCup Rescue may yield useful robots. Held since 2000, it aims to stimulate development of robots to help humans in dangerous situations, like collapsed buildings or after a chemical spill. ” From: New Scientist

” But the laser guidance systems teams have developed for 3D imaging in the RoboCup Rescue competition could be adapted for use by human rescuers much sooner, he adds.” From: New Scientist

  • MIT’s Nexi MDS Robot

Usually before going to bed, i used to watch some interesting news in Youtube. And i found one amazing video of Robot. We saw many robot walk, talk and Run. But MIT’s Nexi MDS Robot, can make expressions, wow thats amazing !!!

    Watch this Video

MIT’s Nexi robot expresses emotions the same way you do - with your highly mobile face.

Nexi’s head and face were designed by Xitome Design with MIT. The expressive robotics started with a neck mechanism sporting 4 degrees of freedom (DoF) at the base, plus pan-tilt-yaw of the head itself. The mechanism has been constructed to time the movements so they mimic human speed.

Nexi’s face has been designed to use gaze, eyebrows, eyelids and an articulate mandible to communicate a greater range of different emotions.”

” Nexi has a color CCD in each eye as well as (top this, humans) an indoor Active 3D infrared camera in its head and four microphones to support sound localization. “

” The chassis for the robot is also advanced; it is based on the uBot5 mobile manipulator developed by the Laboratory for Perceptual Robotics UMASS Amherst. The mobile base can balance dynamically on two wheels; Nexi has what amounts to a Segway-like body. The arms can pick up ten pounds; the plastic covering of the chassis can detect human touch. “

10 Awesome Gadgets Only In Asia

I was browsing the other day on PCWorld and came across a list of cool Asian gadgets that are only available in Asia.

    PCWorld claims:

It’s true: The coolest gadgets often debut overseas–usually in Asia. Some are cell phones that double as music players or TVs. Others are supersmall yet powerful notebooks or handheld PCs. And some are just weird, like the world’s most disturbing piggy bank.

One of my favorite is the Toshiba ApriPoko Robot; it supposedly picks up and stores the IR signals that was seen on the conventional remote. So in the future, the owner could save time looking up for the remote and just talk to the AprilPoko and have it mimic the same IR code to the TV.
